Delivering a Data-Driven Future at Accelagen: Meet Janus and Jessie

Spotlighting our Data Management team—meet Janus Rowlan D. Relos and Jessie Lourdesamy, as they drive innovation and excellence in clinical data solutions.

At Accelagen, we believe that delivering exceptional clinical trial data isn’t just about systems—it’s about the people behind them. Our Data Management team ensures every piece of clinical data is accurate, accessible, and audit-ready

This month, we’re celebrating two stellar team members: Janus Rowlan Relos, Head of Data Management, and Jessie Lourdesamy, a savvy Database Developer solving complex problems with ease. With their leadership and expertise, Accelagen continues to be at the forefront of clinical research.

Growing data-driven leadership: Janus Rowlan Relos

Janus Rowlan D. Relos joined the Accelagen team in April 2024 as Head of Database Management. Bringing a wealth of experience in clinical data management, Janus has worked at some of the world’s biggest CROs and pharmaceutical companies. With strong technical expertise and extensive leadership experience, from day one, Janus has shared his passion for automation and efficiency, working to build a seamless library of resources that will streamline workflows across Accelagen’s studies.

“I don’t mind getting my hands dirty. Data management is labour-intensive, but I want to ensure we’re building a system where we’re not reinventing the wheel for every study.”

Known for his direct approach Janus ensures that data management is not just a backend process but a strategic advantage for clinical trials. He’s also dedicated to positioning Accelagen’s Data Management team for growth, introducing new support structures and preparing for future AI-driven innovations in the field.

“Right now, I see a lot of AI tools that are coming in to help with data management but they don’t really work well enough yet. They will only get better over the next few years, and we might reach a position where you can have your data set and all the queries automatically rendered. In terms of building databases, validating data, and even just running test scenarios—AI will be a game changer in our industry.”

Cutting-edge clinical data

Whether it’s through groundbreaking trials or refining data management processes, at Accelagen, we like to think we are not just managing data points—we’re driving progress in a way that is forward-thinking, adaptive, and committed to excellence.

One of the most exciting projects on the horizon is Accelagen’s work in psilocybin clinical trials for pain management. While still in the early stages, this study is part of a broader push within Australia to explore new frontiers in neurological and psychiatric treatments. With people like Janus and Jessie at the helm, the future of data management is in good hands.

The problem-solver behind the database: Jessie Lourdesamy

Since joining Accelagen in late 2024, Jessie Lourdesamy has already made a big impact. As a proficient and skilled Database Developer, they build and maintain our wide array of databases, which clinical sites use to input trial data—ensuring that information is structured, accessible, and ‘analysable’ by statisticians and researchers.

Bringing experience in clinical data at a world-renowned CRO before transitioning to Accelagen, Jessie was in search of a “better work-life balance” and a “more collaborative environment” at a smaller, family-first CRO. Since joining the team, they’ve not only fit right in, but it’s quickly become clear how much they thrive on creative problem-solving.

“Data management feels like solving a giant Rubik’s cube every day—moving pieces to fit the needs of sites, statisticians, and the study as a whole. It’s a mix of problem-solving, patience, persistence, and what I call ‘nerd creativity’—thinking outside the box to make complex systems work seamlessly. When there’s a problem, I can’t let it go; I have to figure it out—and when I do, it feels so good.”

Even with the rise in purpose-driven businesses and organisations, in the data world, Jessie shares that it’s still rare to find a workplace that puts people first

“I really enjoy what I do, and I know that I’m really good at what I do, but in my previous roles, issues kept cropping up from putting profits over people. It started  affecting me more on a day-to-day basis. Even in just a few months at Accelagen, I’ve learned so much, from new systems to how different teams collaborate. There’s so much space for growth here.”
